I was in 10th grade when Columbine happened.
The day after, my high school gathered in the music room to talk about it. I'll never forget my English teacher breaking down into sobs. Most of the students were too stunned to say anything at all.
The kids who had died were like us. They were our age.
I remember walking the hallways imagining what it would be like to hear gunshots. To have to run. It was so far beyond comprehension and yet, suddenly, very real.
24 years later, my 1st grader completes active shooter drills at his elementary school. I barely have the words to talk to him about it. He tells me they have to "go into the corner and be very quiet."
The Nashville shooting was the 376th school shooting since Columbine.
I feel simultaneously enraged and helpless.
The only way I can claw myself onto a tiny tightrope of hope is to do something.
To filter my rage and heartbreak into action.
Below, I've collected a few ideas for how you can help. I've pulled these from the source I go to most, Emily Amick (@emilyinyourphone). I used to get sucked down the doom scroll rabbit hole, and the only thing it did was make me paralyzed with anxiety.
If you're as enraged and anxious as I am, please take a few minutes to do at least one of the things listed below.
Change is possible, but we have to keep working together.
x
Catherine

My friend and colleague Allegra Stein posted the following about productivity, and it's too important not to share. She said: Being "productive" looks like different things to different people. Productivity to a superthinker could look like a day spent researching, analyzing, and sitting deep in thought. From the outside, it might not look like that person is doing much, when in reality that person is doing their best and most important work.Standards of productivity tend to be set by high...
Hi and happy Wednesday! Someone asked me yesterday what this newsletter was about, and I replied with something along the lines of "it's semi-controlled shrapnel from the glitter-bomb inside my head." I've been writing this newsletter on and off for almost 5 years. I am not always consistent, but I do always come back. While it has taken many forms and covered many topics, its always centered around the really light and easy-to-answer question: how do we live with more meaning, purpose and...
Three things to ponder this week: LinkedIn Anxiety Yesterday, I saw this post on Instagram about how LinkendIn causes intense comparisonitis and anxiety. This could be a pot and kettle situation, but I confess I instantly related to the observation because I have long felt self-conscious showing up on LinkedIn. To me, Instagram feels more creative and less serious, while LinkedIn feels like a pissing match of promotions. This is, of course, filtered through my own personal lens. LinkedIn...
